Project Description:

State Highway 550 (SH 550) will be a limited access toll route around the northern and eastern edges of Brownsville, Texas, partly replacing and expanding FM 511. Its development will provide a new entry point for truck traffic to the Port of Brownsville. The toll road will connect I-69E and US 77/US 83 southeastward to FM 3248. Added to its benefit of opening a new entry to truck traffic, residents will now take advantage of an easier, faster, and safer route to points of interest such as Port Isabel and South Padre Island. It will alleviate traffic congestion in the area and prepare the Cameron County for its expected growth in population. All toll revenues collected by the Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority (CCRMA) will be used for future Cameron County-TxDOT transportation projects in Cameron County to further improve mobility. All vehicles are eligible for its use since no stops are required to pay toll bills - all tolls installed on SH 550 are electronic. To save up to 25% on toll fees from SH 550 and all other toll roads in the State of Texas, enroll now to receive your TxTag Starter Kit.
